Why You Need To be Talking About Being

[spacer height=”20px”]
Doing is definitely a hot topic right now.
 [spacer height=”20px”]
Just type in New Years Resolution in Google to see what I mean.
 [spacer height=”20px”]
Doing goals are great.
 [spacer height=”20px”]
So why does doing feel so shallow sometimes?
 [spacer height=”20px”]
It’s because doing without being or becoming is less than you were created for.

Being or Doing?[spacer height=”20px”]

Your doing and accomplishing are only as important as your being and becoming
Doing should flow out of who you are.[spacer height=”20px”]
  • Being sent causes you to go
  • Being loved causes you to love
  • Being forgiven causes you to forgive
  • Being accepted causes you to accept
  • Being born again causes you to act like it[spacer height=”20px”]

So this means that you being and doing need to be in the right order.[spacer height=”20px”]

Doing in order to be[spacer height=”20px”]

Doing without being will lead to a  Pharisaical religion.[spacer height=”20px”]

You need to be careful how you go about this because this is how other religions function – a works based salvation. Your good needs to outweigh your bad.[spacer height=”20px”]

Jesus stated it this way in Matthew 23:27 when talking to the religious leaders of His day, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.”[spacer height=”20px”]

Doing because of who you are[spacer height=”20px”]

Doing out of who you are is Christianity.[spacer height=”20px”]
For example, being generous makes the difference between being a coerced giver and being a cheerful giver.[spacer height=”20px”]
Christianity is different in that you stop doing sinful things because through faith in Jesus and what He has done, you are sinless. You don’t stop doing sinful things to become sinless you stop sinning because you are declared sinless through Jesus Christ.[spacer height=”20px”]
In Christianity, you stop doing certain things and you start doing certain things because of who you already are not in order to gain that status.[spacer height=”20px”]
This is how Paul states it:
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.“[spacer height=”20px”]

Colossians 1:21-22  And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him[spacer height=”20px”]

You are accepted, forgiven, gifted, empowered by the Holy spirit, a citizen of the Kingdom of God, and loved by Jesus. And not because of anything you or I can do but because of what He has done.[spacer height=”20px”]

Not being or doing but being and doing[spacer height=”20px”]

The idea is definitely not that you shouldn’t be doing anything but that what you are doing is a direct result of who you are.[spacer height=”20px”]
This is how James states it in James 2:18, “But someone will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
 [spacer height=”20px”]
Who you are, overflows into what you do. And what you do should increase who you are.[spacer height=”20px”]
So as you look at your to-do list, make sure that there isn’t anything on it with the intent to gain God’s favor.[spacer height=”20px”]
In Jesus, you have God’s favor 100%.[spacer height=”20px”]
So if you haven’t already, put your to-do-list aside for a moment and start on your to-be-list.
