The reality is that many of us have heard somebody complain about Christianity being exclusive.
You might have heard someone say, how can Jesus be the only way?
How can they be so arrogant to say that they have the only answer?
But I think there’s beauty in exclusivity.
The problem with having too many options[spacer height=”20px”]
Think about this.
Have you ever been in the store where you have so many options that it makes it hard to make a decision? Just think about trying to buy peanut butter. You have the option to get creamy, crunchy, or peanut butter with jelly in the same jar. And then, once you decide what kind, you have to decide which brand to pick from. In fact, there are so many decisions that sometimes it’s just easier to not make a decision. And this is an example of a low-risk situation.
Let’s see if we can think of this truth in the form of another analogy. Imagine that you are on a cliff and you are about to fall. You look around and see that there are 10 ropes spaced far enough to where you can only grab one. Only one will save because some are not anchored on anything they can sustain your weight. So now you have to pick the right one. Time is running out. Which one will you pick? Can you imagine the stress and how difficult this decision would be? How different does this situation look if there were only one firmly anchored rope.
Now let’s think about this when it comes to religions.
Think about a conversation you have had with somebody who is overwhelmed or confused because there are so many options to choose from when it comes to faith. In their confusion and desperation they ask, why is there some many religions in the world? Why can’t there just be one?
And that’s the beauty of exclusivity.
Why Being Exclusive Is A Good Thing[spacer height=”20px”]
There’s beauty in the exclusivity of the Gospel. Where God says there’s one way and only one way. You don’t have to be confused or unable to make a decision because there’s only one decision to make. And that’s the decision to trust and believe that Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life.
God offers one name under heaven which all people can call and be saved and that’s the name of Jesus. There are not 1 million choices out there there’s one. There is beauty in being exclusive. And it is beautifully exclusively inclusive.
Paul tells us in Acts 4:12 that, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” And then he tells us in Romans 10:13 that, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The Gospel is exclusive in that there is only one way to be saved, but it is inclusive in that everyone can take part.
The decision is simple because there is only one decision to make – and it’s Jesus.
