Can you continue to live your life the way you’re living it now?
Or do you need something more worthy?
Are you wasting your life on things that are of little value?
Worth wasting for
(Mark 14:3-6) 3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 …And they scolded her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.
In the story above we see an event where someone comes and pours an ointment so valuable that it causes some reactions. This action, however, is in line with Jesus teaching what it takes to be His disciple. Jesus teaches his chosen crew that to be his disciples
This action, however, is in line with Jesus teaching what it takes to be His disciple. Jesus teaches his chosen crew that to be his disciples they should deny themselves, pick up their cross daily and follow Him (Matthew 16). In other words, he calls them and us to a life of sacrifice. He calls us to a life where giving up things of great value is the
He calls us to a life where giving up things of great value is the norm, not the exception.
Haters will hate
So why is it that we, just like the haters in this story, can have the same attitude?
The item of value we give up could take many different forms. We hear stories of people that make great sacrifices that many times require them to leave their comfy home, good paying jobs, safety of this country, or give with extravagant generosity.
Our reaction is we’re indignant.
- We think to ourselves, how could anyone waste their lives as missionaries?
- How could anyone put their family in danger to share Jesus?
- Why would someone do without just to be generous?
How Jesus view our sacrifice
And the reality is Jesus would say these acts are acts of beauty done towards him.
He would say, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. He would say, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
So if you are the one criticizing, I believe Jesus would say “leave them alone”. And for the ones who are seeking to live as if Jesus is worth the sacrifice, I want to encourage you to keep giving, keep going, keep taking risks, keep pouring out your life for Him, and as Paul said it best, keep up to good fight of faith!
It’s worth it! And Jesus said it’s a beautiful thing you do unto Him!
Is what your living for worthy of Jesus?
Are you living for earthly treasures or Heavenly ones?
Do you seek to please people by the way you live or Jesus?
