3 Insane (But True) Things About Church

So why do people go to the gym?[spacer height=”20px”]
To get into the physical shape they want.[spacer height=”20px”]
Why do people go to the Hospital?[spacer height=”20px”]
Normally, to get the medical attention they need.[spacer height=”20px”]
And why do people go to church?[spacer height=”20px”]
Well, this one might not be as clear.[spacer height=”20px”]

1. Church is not for good people[spacer height=”20px”]

I say this one is not so clear because there have been several times I have invited someone to church and their response is that they need to start doing better or quit doing something they believe is inappropriate for someone who goes to church.[spacer height=”20px”]
But, this thought might just be a little backwards.[spacer height=”20px”]
The gyms is for people who need to get in shape, the hospital is for those who need medical attention, and the church is for people who need a savior.[spacer height=”20px”]
[Tweet “Church is not a place where you “fix” yourself and then join. It’s a place where you come to get fixed. (Which in reality Jesus does more than fixing. Jesus actually does resurrecting because we were all once dead in our sins.)”]
Church is not a place where you “fix” yourself and then join. It’s a place where you come to get fixed. (Which in reality Jesus does more than fixing. Jesus actually does resurrecting because we were all once dead in our sins.)
 [spacer height=”20px”]
So church is not for good people.
 [spacer height=”20px”]

2. Who is church for?

[Tweet “Another way to say this is, no perfect people allowed in church – Mark 2:17, Jesus makes it clear who He came for, “And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”“]

In Mark 2:17, Jesus makes it clear who He came for, “And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”[spacer height=”20px”]
Another way to say this is, no perfect people allowed in church.[spacer height=”20px”]
After you repent and surrender your life to Jesus, you need a constant input of Gods word and the support of a good Christian community in order to grow into the person God wants you to be.[spacer height=”20px”]
But many people think they need to straighten up before they come to Jesus.
 [spacer height=”20px”]
Crazy right.[spacer height=”20px”]

3. A church full of sinners[spacer height=”20px”]

Church is for sinners, and yes even for the hypocrites.[spacer height=”20px”]

Jesus came for sinners.[spacer height=”20px”]

So that’s who His church should be filled with – A bunch of sinners who have repented of their sins, live by His Grace through faith and bring glory to His name.[spacer height=”20px”]

[Tweet “Jesus came for sinners. So that’s who His church should be filled with – A bunch of sinners who have repented of their sins, live by His Grace through faith and bring glory to His name.”]

[spacer height=”20px”]I know this is hard to believe but He offers Grace to those who don’t deserve it, forgiveness to the unforgivable, love to the unlovable, mercy to the merciless, healing to the hurt, peace to the restless, hope to the hopeless, light to those in darkness, and salvation to the lost.[spacer height=”20px”]

Come as you are.[spacer height=”20px”]

Jesus won’t be surprised by your baggage. He said He came to call sinners not saints.[spacer height=”20px”]

And guess what, sinners…..sin. (No surprise there right?)[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

While you were a sinner

[spacer height=”20px”]

I love Romans 5:8, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

It doesn’t say that it was when we deserved it, worked hard enough for it, lived a sinless life, or did a certain amount of community service hours.

It removes any thought in my mind that it’s ever up to you or me to earn His forgiveness.

If you can “fix” yourself then Jesus didn’t need to come and die.

But He did. Because He knew that it was the only way. This is why Jesus said, I am the way the truth and life no one comes to the father except through me.

This is how the apostle Paul explains it in Galatians 2:21, “I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

So stop putting off going to church. The church is full of sinners and they have a spot for one more.
