Congratulations, you have a kid!
Do you see your kids as a blessing from God?
God has placed a young shapeable life in your hands. That’s a great responsibility and a great privilege.
God has given you the opportunity to do something great in the world for Him through what you do in this person’s life.
What you do matters
What you do really does matter. Everything really is significant.
The words you say, the number of hugs you give, the patience you show, the late nights, and early mornings, the effort you show to get them to church every single week, the advice you give and the advice you have to repeat over-and-over, and all the care you invest in them, is a treasure to God.
Kids matter to God
Jesus shows us His care and thus God’s care for kids in a story we see in the book of Luke. During one of Jesus’ many talks, some kids are trying to make their way to Jesus, but his disciples try to run them off. Jesus rebukes them and goes on to explain how much He cares for them.
Luke 18:16-18 (NIV)
16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Kids are not an inconvenience to God. He wants them to come to Him. And not only does He want them to come to Him, He wants your effort in making sure they make it to Him.
You get to
God has given you direct influence over your kids and any other kids that seem to be more yours then their parents. You can either hinder them by the way you act and treat them. Or you can guide them to Jesus by loving them as yourself.
Kids are a gift from God to you and gifts are meant to be opened. And the way you do that with kids is by helping them become all God created them to be. You get to invest yourself in the lives of others.
Take time to be mindful and prayerful as to how you can mentor, teach, love, and parent those kids entrusted to you by God.
