What would people see if they saw you for who you really are? Real or Fake?

Fake progress is no progress

Proverbs 12:9 (GNT) It is better to be an ordinary person working for a living than to play the part of someone great but go hungry.

It’s easy to fake, isn’t it?

We can fake how nice we are, how much money we have, and even how spiritual we are. Some of us live by the motto, “fake it til you make it”.

You might have even faked it so long you can’t remember who the real you is.

But is this how you want to live?

Do you want to live your whole life pretending to be someone you’re not? If you’re trying to act like the person you want to be, this might actually be hindering you from becoming the person you want to be.

Fake progress or work is, well, fake.

Fake progress is no progress.

It’s fake, meaning not real.

Just because it looks like you’re getting somewhere doesn’t mean you really are. Just because people believe you’re are who you say you are, doesn’t make it true.

Quit pretending to be something you’re not.

You have to make a decision to stop pretending

Yes, it will be hard. Authenticity is a valued characteristic because it’s not that common.

The sooner you admit that you have been trying to live someone else’s dream the sooner you can start seeking out God’s dream for you.

The Psalmist gives you and me some great advice. Quit starving because you’re trying to impress somebody.

  • Quit physically starving because you want your body to look a certain way. Yes, being physically fit is a good thing, but starving yourself is not healthy.
  • Quit starving because you don’t have money to buy food after spending money you don’t have to keep a certain lifestyle that makes you look successful.
  • Quit starving because you refuse to take the job you were offered because you think it’s beneath you.
  • Quit starving your soul because you act the super spiritual part but your devotional time is almost non-existent.

The real you is better than the fake you

It’s better to be an ordinary person.

That statement might lack the flashiness or wow factor that you are looking for but that’s okay.

Once you drop the act you can become the person God meant for you to be.

Genesis 1:27 ESV

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Jeremiah 1:5 ESV

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

1 Peter 2:9 ESV

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Galatians 2:20 ESV

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

The real you is better than the fake you.

You are a child of God, created in His image, Loved by God, known by Him, and chosen to be in His family, quit pretending to be someone you’re not.

Look to God. Your true identity is found in Him.
