Longing for His return
2 Peter 3:9 (NIV) The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
I have heard people say they wish that God would hurry up and return.
I admit I’m guilty of this. I speak for myself but I believe many don’t do it out of any evil heart. Instead, we long to see Christ and be absent from this sinful body.
Sometimes, however, I think we might just desire His return because we’re tired of seeing the world go downhill and wish He would just come and redeem this world already.
But is this the most loving thing we can do?
Longing for His return while longing for their salvation
If Christ calls us to, “Love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31(NIV)” then shouldn’t we want the same for our neighbor as we do for ourselves? – Salvation.
Yes, we should earnestly desire the coming of the day of God (2 Peter 3:12).
But we should also seek to be like our heavenly father, patient…not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
