Shaped on Purpose
Psalm 139:13 (NIV)
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
God created you on purpose for a purpose. The Bible tells us that we were knit by God in our mother’s womb.
Now, I have never knit anything, so I can’t speak from experience. But I have watched my wife do it. And it’s a very sloooow, thoughtful process. I think God wants you and me to get the bigger picture here.
He didn’t just throw us in the microwave of creation or order us off an assembly line that mass produces humans.
He picked just the right thread, needle, and pattern, and with the focus and detail that only an infinite God could give, he made you. Think about it, you are one among several billion and no one is like you.
You are unique.
And God did all this because He has specific plans for you. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is clear on God’s intentions for you and for me.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Now let me ask you something.
Would God go through all that trouble for nothing?
The answer is no. And His plans don’t just stay on paper, they get put into action.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.
The Bible tells us that He has prepared works tailored just for us. Good works that will bring life to you and glory to Him. God has a lot invested in you and me.
It’s like you come to this world as a bundle (bundle of joy?). Well, yes a bundle of joy but what I mean is a package deal. A pre-packaged deal that comes with gifts, talents, plans, and work to do.
All handpicked by your divine creator.
And when I take all this in, when I can stop long enough to see clearly, ordinary is that last thing that comes to my mind.
