You are a Soul with a body

I know it’s hard to change the way we think about ourselves because we were born into our bodies and have been responsible for taking care of them ever since.

But our temporary body is a container of our eternal being.

In James Chapter 2 mentioned above, James briefly talks about this truth.

And honestly, I think most of us know this but we just don’t live like it. What does it look like to live like a soul with a body instead of the opposite?

Eternal Perspective

This will give you an eternal perspective.

Living with a soul with a body perspective keeps the fact that one day our soul will go on into eternity. As James says it, the body apart from the soul is dead.

The world is temporary but this is not it. There is an eternity waiting.

Death is not the end. Your soul goes on.

Priorities

This will change your priorities. What matters the most, your body or your soul?

No, you should not neglect your body. God gave it to you for a reason. But when it comes to setting priorities what do you consider first – soul or body?

For example, you say I need to eat 3 meals a day in order to be physically healthy but you never give much thought to feeding your soul. We believe that hearing a sermon at church once a week will be enough.

If you live with a soul with a body mentality, you will prioritize those things that nurture and edify your soul not just your physical body.

There are no Ordinary people

There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations – these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit – immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.  – C.S Lewis

God cares about every person in this world. And He cares about how you treat them. They are not, as C.S. Lewis said it, mere mortals.

Each person on the face of this earth has the fingerprint of God, including you. Live like it and treat others like it as well.

  1. God help me to treat the person behind me in line at Wal Mart with the same awareness that I do the person next to me at worship on Sundays, as people who are no mere mortals. Thank you for this post!
