Jesus became human and lived among us

John 1:14 (NIV)
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

What would be a sacrifice for you?

  • What is the ultimate thing you would do?
  • Who would you become?
  • What would you give up?
  • Would you go across the world?
  • Would you sell everything and completely change your way of life?
  • What would it take to do that?
  • What would be worthy of such a noble act?

Well as you think about that for a couple of minutes think about this, the Word became flesh and lived among us!

Jesus the Son of God left heaven, you know the place that is free of sin, pain, death, and where everybody loves Him. He left THAT place and came to earth. And He came knowing that He would have to suffer one of the worst deaths none, suffer unjustly and die shamefully expose like a common criminal.

Talk about sacrifice.

Jesus did that because of His love for the Father and His love for you and me.

So what did it take for Jesus to do this?

Philippians 2 Gives us insight into what took place.

He took the form of a servant

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

While Jesus was on earth He emphasized the need to served and not be served. He even told His disciples that if they wanted to lead they would have to serve (Matt 20:26).

But it was simply what He did, it was who He was.

He took on the attitude and heart of one who wants to serve. Not by coercion but by choice because of a heart that loves God and people.

He prepared His heart to pay the greatest price

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

I don’t doubt that many of us are willing to serve and sacrifice. But what is your stopping point?

  • How much is too much?
  • What price is too great to pay?

Jesus left heaven, took on the limitations of human beings, and died on a cross.

And He came knowing that was the price He would have to pay.

Now we get to bring Him glory

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus came to die but He is not dead.

And we need to stop living like He is.

  • He is exalted.
  • At the right hand of the Father (Acts 7:55).
  • His name is above every name
  • And He is worthy of our praise

What an amazing Savior we serve.

Not only should we follow His example, but we GET TO serve Him.

Jesus sacrificed it all and now we get to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is our true and proper worship (Romans 12:1).
